MONEY!
We have started a unit on recognizing and counting coins and problem solving with money! I wanted to share with you some great sites to help at home as well. Get your children to help you at home by counting change, saving money, shopping at the grocery store, and more!

Below are some great links to help you see how were are learning to add and subtract larger numbers thinking about place value, using base ten blocks, and number lines. Learnzillon.com has several short clips to explain each math standard if you ever have any questions; I posted all of grade 2 math below as well! Make sure to check out the blog to see a few examples from our class!

Welcome to 2nd grade!
I am so excited to start the school year! We will be learning many new and exciting things this year!
Our school motto this year is "Live kind. Choose Happiness. Unleash learning." What a great saying to live by! At the beginning of the year we will be learning more about positive habits and attitudes that will help us not only this year, but throughout life. It's so important to build that community of trust and respect so we can begin to think critically and creatively while communicating and collaborating with one another.
I hope everyone received my letter before school started, and if you have not yet, please have your child bring in a picture and/or something to share that will help us to get to know him or her a little better.
On the "blog" page (top right), we will be writing posts together as a class and in small groups to share with you our learning throughout the year. I am excited to set out on this new adventure of communication! Each individual student will also be able to publish their work periodically on kidblog as well. We're excited to have an authentic audience to share our learning, and it will help us to reach a global wide community!
