In reading, we learned about genres this week. There is fiction and nonfiction. Fiction is fake, nonfiction is real. We read with our buddies and wrote about how we knew if our books were fiction or nonfiction. Fantasy fiction could not happen like in the story Interrupting Chicken by David Stein. Realistic fiction could happen like in FIrst Day Jitters by Julie Dannenberg. Biographies are nonfiction about people. Informational nonfiction gives us facts like in Leo the Snow Leopard; the true story of an amazing rescue. We sorted the books we've read into genre groups.
In math, we practiced ten frames, and we did one more, one less, two more, two less. We learned different ways to make numbers with our number of the day. We practiced going up on a number line to add. We practiced subtracting on a number line by going down or back. We wrote number stories and traded them to solve with each other.
This week was very fun. One book we read was Beautiful Oops! by Barney Saltzberg. We learned even if you make a mistake, you can turn it into a beautiful thing! We decided to make cards for Mrs. Justice's birthday by taking a creative break for 10 minutes. Some of us even stayed in for recess to finish! Thanks so much for all the commenting parents! Keep it up!
