First we read biographies about famous Americans. We got to choose which person we wanted to study. Then we wrote facts that we learned in our reading journals. They were key details about their life. After that, we made timelines and the facts we learned. We shared our timelines with the class. At the end, we wrote an opinion writing about one famous American and thought about the question "Who was the most influential famous American you learned about and why?" Check out our timelines! Guess the Unit!
Students loved the interactive math assignment with the question, “Who in your family can jump the highest?” So, we have another similar assignment for this week! It’s called “Guess the Unit”! We’ve been learning to measure in centimeters, meters, inches, feet, and yards. Have someone in your family premeasure 5 objects in your house without telling the student what unit they used! Then, the family member will tell the student what was measured and how wide or tall it was by giving them only the number without the unit. The student’s job is to then guess the unit that was used by thinking about what would make the most sense. Then, the student will measure the object to see if the unit he/she guessed was correct. If not, the student should try another unit until he/she gets the same answer as the family member! For example: Parent: “The length of the kitchen table was 5. What unit did I use?” Student: I think you used feet! (They check with the measuring tape) “Yes, it’s 5 feet!” After you do this with 5 objects in your household, your comment on our blog should answer the following question: What did you learn about measurement? Hi everyone! We made a song about force and motion. Some artists came to our school and it was so much fun. We were with fifth graders from Mrs. Jackson's class. And we got to sing along. We'll post a video soon! Bye
by Mara, Jack, Jordan We made our timelines because we wanted to learn more about famous Americans. We wanted to do something fun (and to learn about how they impact our world). I like this project! -Neve
We have been working on them to make them as good as can be! They are getting so good so far! -Lindsey We learned about how long they were alive and about special times in their lives. The reason we made the timelines is to learn special moments! -Charles So these past few weeks we have been studying living things (and how they impact the environment). Some people have the same animal some don't. We are making a did you know bubbles. We were just looking at the books. Then we were just getting snips of information and writing it down. But if you are doing the same animal, you will do your own "Did you know?" bubble. We'll share them with you when we're done! We had fun eating the gummy worms. And we had fun measuring the gummy worms. We got the difference of the gummy worms stretch. Neve won. It so fun. First we get a gummy worm then we measured it, then we stretched it out and measured it again. Neve got the highest answer in the class. She got 9cm. -Ethen, Eliza, Karis and Ronnie We got some worms, and everybody was excited. We liked the worms. Our class got worms and for the first time we measured them. Measuring the worms was fun. We got to touch them with gloves. We have 77 worms. The longest worm was 9cm long. When we saw the worms we came across some eggs!!! So cool. We are making compost out of tea bags and coffee grounds. They can be up to 4-6cm. The babies are really small. -By Aiden, Jadyn, Ethan, and David |
